Abner A. Vargas is a 28-year-old Mexican-American artist born and raised along the dynamic Mexicali-Calexico border. Armed with a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts – Media from the University of California, San Diego and a passion for storytelling, Abner has honed his craft across various realms of the creative industry.
His journey as a filmmaker has taken him on an exhilarating path. He is a director, writer, and producer of festival awarded short films such as "Future Leftovers" and "Red Drops." His cinematic vision deftly navigates the realms of sexuality, human connection, and mental illness, weaving intricate narratives that challenge conventional storytelling norms. Inspired by luminaries such as Sam Esmail, Gaspar Noe, and Ari Aster, Abner's works delve into the complexities of the human condition, pushing boundaries and exploring the depths of emotion with unparalleled creativity and insight.
Beyond his creative endeavors, Abner has established himself as a versatile freelancer, excelling in roles ranging from production assistant and editor to videographer and producer. His career has taken him to diverse locations, including Los Cabos and Tulum, Mexico, where he contributed to television shows. His community engagement allowed him to produce content that streamed through local TV. Additionally, Abner's expertise extends to sports events, where he has served as a camera operator, replay tech, and producer for prestigious tournaments like the Men's Lacrosse World Championship 2023, Aztec Invitations, indoor soccer matches, and the SCORE San Felipe 250, showcasing his adaptability and skill across various facets of visual storytelling.
In addition to his prowess behind the camera, Abner is an adept photographer, capturing moments of surrealism and disorientation through experimental techniques such as double exposures.
